County Road 775 S., the main street through town, closed one lane of traffic for about an hour while crews worked to put out the blaze and clear smoke from the building. The fire started just before 7 a.m.

The structure houses four apartment units but is more commonly known as the town’s old post office.

The tenant of the first-floor apartment where the fire started had to relocate, but tenants in the other three apartments were allowed to return, Nineveh Fire Chief Dustin O’Neil said. No one was injured, he said.

The wood around the fireplace caught fire. Firefighters had to cut a hole in the floor to get to the source of the fire, which they put out in about 15 minutes, O’Neil said.

Traffic was shut down because all of the emergency vehicles had to park on the main street, he said.

Nineveh, Franklin, Amity, Edinburgh and Trafalgar fire departments responded.
