Softball

Royals dominate Avon in regional

Keagan Rothrock struck out 14 while tossing her seventh no-hitter of the season and Roncalli steamrolled visiting Avon, 9-0, on Tuesday to win its first regional title since 2015 and tie the 2011 state championship squad for the most wins in school history.

Courtney Keller had two hits and drove in three runs for the Class 4A No. 2 Royals (28-2), who also got two hits apiece from Abbie Carr (two RBIs), Lyla Blackwell (two runs) and Rothrock.

Roncalli will face Columbus North in a semistate semifinal at Center Grove on Saturday.

Boys golf

Cougars outdo Warriors

Greenwood Christian posted a 166-189 victory over Whiteland at Smock on Tuesday. Will Davis led the Warriors in defeat with a round of 38, while Evan Meece contributed a 44.

Lancers come up short

Max Blandford carded the day’s low round with a 41, but Edinburgh suffered a 204-218 defeat against Southwestern.

Basketball

Locals picked for IBCA showcase

Four Johnson County players were selected to take part in the annual IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Underclass Showcase, which will be held later this month at Ben Davis High School.

Franklin teammates Kuryn Brunson and Scarlett Kimbrell were chosen for the girls showcase on June 18, as was Indian Creek’s Faith Wiseman. Edinburgh’s Caleb Dewey was among those chosen to participate in the boys event the following day.

The showcase is not open to the general public, but two spectators will be allowed for each participant.
