Suspect arrested after attempted carjacking

<p>Greenwood police chased and arrested a man after he tried to steal an occupied car at a Greenwood intersection.</p><p>Andrew McQuinn, 26, 636 Lawndale Drive, Greenwood, was arrested on charges of robbery, a felony, and resisting law enforcement after police say he tried to steal a car about 9:30 p.m. Monday in the neighborhood southwest of U.S. 31 and Fry Road.</p><p>Police were sent to the 600 block of Wooddale Terrace on an attempted carjacking, according to a Greenwood police report.</p><p>The attempted carjacking occurred a couple blocks west of there, the report said.</p><p>The victim said he and a friend were stopped at the intersection of Lawndale Drive and Sunset Boulevard when McQuinn approached the driver’s side door and pulled on the handle. McQuinn had one of his hands in his hoodie pocket as if he had a gun, and shouted, &quot;Get out and give me your (expletive) car,&quot; the victim told police. He hit the gas and sped away, advising the passenger to duck in case McQuinn did have a gun, he said.</p><p>While police were talking with the victim, another report came in that a suspicious man was hiding nearby. McQuinn saw the caller and ran, the report said. When police arrived, the caller pointed them in the direction he fled, the report said.</p><p>They turned on their bright lights to search for McQuinn. They found him hiding in a yard in the 600 block of Howard Road, according to the report.</p><p>When police got out of the car, McQuinn looked directly at them and took off running, the report said.</p><p>Police yelled for him to stop, but he didn’t. They eventually caught him, according to the report.</p><p>McQuinn said he asked the victims to borrow a phone, not their car, the report said.</p><p>He is being held at the Johnson County jail on $4,300 bond.</p>
