Franklin man arrested after leading police on foot chase in Edinburgh

<p>A Franklin man was arrested after he fled from Edinburgh police on bicycle and by foot, and had drugs on him.</p><p>Herbert Christopher Hadley, 40, 4613 S. County Road 537 East, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, battery and theft.</p><p>An Edinburgh police officer saw a bicyclist without red or white reflectors on Thompson Street about 4 a.m. Friday, an Edinburgh Police Department report said.</p><p>The man riding the bicycle, later identified as Herbert Christopher Hadley, matched the description of a suspect in a crime. The officer asked Hadley to stop, but he continued riding for another 50 feet. He was holding a knife and the officer asked him to drop the knife, the report said.</p><p>Hadley dropped the knife, but continued to ride. The police officer followed Hadley with the emergency lights on, the report said.</p><p>Hadley eventually peddled into a backyard, where he jumped a fence. The officer chased him on foot and Hadley fell to the ground and was handcuffed.</p><p>Officers found another knife on him. A plastic bag with methamphetamine and a piece of aluminum foil with a purple substance was found near the bike, the report said.</p><p>Hadley attempted to unbuckle his seat belt and leave the police car after his arrest. The officer placed leg shackles on him and buckled him into the vehicle again, according to the report.</p><p>Hadley unbuckled his seat belt again and jumped at the officer. Hadley was removed from the police car and placed in a jail van, the report said.</p><p>He was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $8,400 bond.</p>
