Local business owner’s home ransacked

Investigators are searching for suspects after someone ransacked a local business owner’s Center Grove-area home, stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and cash.

Someone broke into the house in the 3000 block of Aldywch Court on Nov. 23, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Greenwood couple left their home about 3:30 p.m. and returned home about 9:30 p.m. and found that the glass in their backdoor had been shattered, security cameras destroyed, two bedrooms ransacked and power cut, the report said.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered that six different power cords had been cut, according to the report.
[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]

The couple called their children, who came to the house and served as translators for investigators, as there was a language barrier between the couple who owns the home and the deputies, the report said.

The burglars stole several pieces of jewelry valued at more than $74,000, and $10,000 to $20,000 cash, according to the report.

The couple, which owns a Greenwood Japanese restaurant, told investigators they recently had a dispute with an employee, but they did not suspect that person of the crime. That employee was just the only person they have ever had a problem with, the couple told investigators.

Investigators spoke with neighbors on Sunday and collected security camera footage from some of those residences, Sheriff Duane Burgess said in a news release.

At one point, one of the videos collected shows three people running to a gray BMW, or what appears to be a BMW, and leaving the area. Prior to the burglary, video shows a black four-door sedan in the area taking photos of the victims house, Burgess said.
