Greenwood cancels upcoming events

<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted every aspect of life for the past four months.</p><p>In Greenwood, it has forced the cancellation of a number of upcoming community events planned for the coming months.</p><p>The Rock the Clock fall block party, Touch-A-Truck event and adult night at Freedom Springs Aquatic Center have all be canceled, city officials announced on Wednesday. In a news release, the city said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to prevent further spreading COVID-19.</p><p>Holding these events would not be conducive with social distancing rules, Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers said in the release.</p><p>“As we make these difficult decisions, our number one priority is to keep our visitors and residents as safe as possible,” Myers said in the release.</p><p>Adult night at Freedom Springs, in which grown ups could enjoy the water park as well as beer and wine from local vendors, was supposed to be Aug. 14. The Touch-A-Truck event had been scheduled for Sept. 5 at the city hall parking lot.</p><p>Rock the Clock, which brought thousands of people out to the streets of Old Town Greenwood for live music, food trucks, a beer garden and more, had been planned for Sept. 26.</p><p>Previously, Greenwood had canceled other large community events, including Freedom Festival, due to safety concerns around the pandemic.</p><p>Positive COVID-19 cases have been on the rise again in Indiana since last month, with the Indiana State Department of Health reporting around 800 to 900 new cases each day. Greenwood has slightly more than 900 positive cases total as of Wednesday, according to ISDH data.</p><p>“This is a fluid situation, and we will continue to monitor the potential for hosting city events in the future, including guidance from the (Centers for Disease Control), (World Health Organization) and ISHD … We understand the disappointment and inconvenience these decisions may cause, but we believe the potential risks of inaction are too great to ignore,” Myers said in the release.</p>
