Royce D. Haste 74 of Trafalgar, IN passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. He was born January 20, 1947 in Somerset, Kentucky to Robert and Pauline (Chumbley) Haste moving to Indiana at the age of two years old. He married his best friend since sixth grade, the love of his life Lynne (Hughes) Haste on December 26, 1996, she survives.

Royce graduated from Trafalgar High School in 1966. He lettered in baseball and basketball, loved the game of baseball and was an excellent pitcher that very few could hit from. He also broke horses and competed in many barrel and flag competitions winning many of the raced he entered.

<p>
Royce loved hunting, fishing and playing golf or just being outdoors. He loved the fishing trips that he took with his son Jamie. He also liked to drag race, driving his own race cars, his favorite was a rear engine big block dragster. His real enjoyment came later in life where he would compete in trap and skeet shooting competitions. He was an excellent shooter and belonged to the National Rifle Association and a life time member. Royce and Lynne loved setting together just talking and enjoying the outdoors.

Royce had been in construction work for over 50 years, mostly as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Operation Engineer Local #103. He was still employed with Gradex Excavating Company serving as a Supervisor for many years and also an operator. Royce worked for several construction companies over the years. He enjoyed running into people that had worked for him and with him over the many years in construction. He loved operating the large dozers and his favorite was operating excavators. He was one of the best operators and known to many. Royce enjoyed working as an operator saying that if he retired that the "Honey-do list" would be way too much to handle.

Survivors include his loving wife Lynne (Hughes) Haste of Trafalgar, IN, his son Jamie Haste (Michelle) of Bargersville, IN, a daughter Monica Kissner of Anderson, IN, step-daughter Lisa Hogan-Green (Dan) of Trafalgar, IN, grandchildren Jared Kissner of North Carolina, Jayden Kissner of Martinsville, IN, three step-grandchildren Cole McKnight of Nineveh, IN, Ciara Green of Trafalgar, IN, Chase Green of Whiteland, IN, one great grandchild Jackson Kissner of North Carolina, one step-great grandchild Aleigha McKnight, a brother Kenneth Haste (Janet) of Trafalgar, IN, sisters Sue Whitworth (Charles) of Trafalgar, IN and Joyce Payne (Steve) of Trafalgar, IN, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and his faithful dog Zina. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Charles Haste. Due to COVID-19 MANDATES, The Reverend Doug Bohall will conduct a private family service on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1:30 P.M. and will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at <a href="http://www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/royce-haste">www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/royce-haste</a>. A public visitation will take place on Wednesday January 27, 2021 from 4PM until 8PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. The family request that those attending the visitation make their visit brief so all attending can be received. Facial coverings, mask and social distancing are required for those attending. Burial will be in Nineveh Cemetery with Cole McKnight, Dan Green, Lain Hughes, Larry Hughes, Danny Miller and Tim Bailey serving as pallbearers.
