Harold Leland Ray, age 85, passed away at home February 11, 2021 with his wife of 66 years, Janet, and his daughter Lesa, by his side. Harold was born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 25, 1935 to the late Elijah Friedman Sr. and Abbie Inez (Langner) Ray. Harold graduated from Jones Valley High School in Powderly, Alabama, where he met the love of his life, Janet. They were married in June, 1954 and had 66 wonderful years together, during which time they had two children, Mike and Lesa. Harold was a devoted disciple of Christ his entire life. He was a member of Powderly Baptist Church in Alabama, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1956, and served as an RA leader and Sunday School teacher. In his 30’s, Harold earned a "Civitan Award" for saving a child’s life. He was a deacon for many years in Indiana, and was a member of Life Point Church in Indianapolis, IN.

Harold’s first job was at Gordons Transports where he worked for nearly 30 years. He was transferred to Indiana in 1971. He retired from Watkins Motor Lines in 2000. After his retirement, Harold worked at the driving range at Smock Golf course, as well as security at the Colts games for twelve years. Harold was known for his community involvement. He volunteered for the 500 Festival Parade, World Police &amp; Fire games and many other events in Indianapolis over a number of years.

Harold was an avid fisherman, golfer, puzzler, and gardener and enjoyed both international and domestic travel. One of his favorite hobbies was cruising Greenwood with Janet in their 1927 Dodge. Harold’s sense of humor was well known among his family and friends. His ability to laugh never failed him, even at the very end of his life. Harold will be remembered as a man of deep integrity and faith whose love for his family, his friends and his God never failed. The world is a better place for having Harold Leland Ray.

Along with his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Ray and his son, Michael L. Ray.
</p>
<p>
Survivors include his wife, Janet L.(Patterson) Ray of Greenwood, IN, a daughter Lesa Fritz (Mac) Greenwood, IN, brother Johnny Ray (Elsie) of Birmingham, AL, sister Donna Mann (Lee) Chelsea, AL, grandchildren Cory Mascari, Allyson (Hakija) Halilic, Aaron Ray; great-grandchildren Aldin, Ajdin and Amila Halilic; and a host of relatives and friends.

Daphna Tobey will conduct a service on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 6PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at <a href="http://www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/harold-leland-ray">www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/harold-leland-ray</a>.
