‘Traffic ticket gone way wrong’: Man arrested on drug, gun charges

A traffic stop led to multiple felony drug charges for an Edinburgh man.

Jason Lee Hagan, 44, was arrested on two Level 5 felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and trafficking with an inmate, as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of a handgun without a license, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

At 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Edinburgh police pulled over a passenger car with track plates, said Doyne Little, police chief. Hagan was driving that car, he said.

Inside the car, police found a loaded, unlicensed handgun, marijuana and paraphernalia, Little said.

At the Johnson County jail, staff searched Hagan again and discovered he was hiding a clear, glass pipe and meth, he said.

The charge of trafficking with an inmate was added because Hagan tried to conceal the drugs, Little said. The charge can be applied to a transaction between an inmate and another person, or an attempt to sneak forbidden items into the jail, he said.

“This a simple traffic ticket gone way wrong for him,” Little said.
