Swartz scores 33, BC tops Pitt in ACC women’s opener 67-56

<p>GREENSBORO, N.C. &mdash; Cameron Swartz scored a career-high 33 points and 13th-seeded Boston College opened the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament with a 67-56 win over 12th-seeded Pittsburgh on Wednesday.</p>
<p>Swartz matched her career-high with four 3-pointers and the career 72% shooter from the foul line made 15 of 16 free throws, the first time she shot more than seven in a game.</p>
<p>Makayla Dickens had three 3s and 11 points for the Eagles (7-11), who play fifth-seeded Syracuse on Thursday.</p>
<p>After the Panthers opened the scoring, Swartz scored the next nine points, getting fouled on a 3-pointer and hitting two. Kaylah Ivey followed with another trey.</p>
<p>In the second quarter Swartz scored nine straight BC points, including a 3 and another foul on a 3, as the lead reached 15.</p>
<p>Pitt scored the last 13 points to close within 28-26 at halftime but Swartz, who had 20 points at the break, opened the second half with her final 3 and the Eagles began pulling away. The lead was nine after three quarters and in double figures throughout the fourth.</p>
<p>Boston College was 10 of 24 from distance.</p>
<p>Jayla Everett scored 22 points for Pitt (5-14), which finish with a five-game losing streak since beating BC 83-80. Amber Brown added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers, who shot 33% and had 22 turnovers.</p>
