GREENWOOD, IN.
Joyce C. (Gibson) Burgess 80, of Greenwood, IN went home to her Heavenly Father Friday, April 30, 2021. Joyce was born May 15, 1940 in Edmonton, KY to Ellis and Marie (Wells) Gibson. She married Charles E Burgess on November 1, 1957 at the Abundant Life Church in Indianapolis, he preceded her in death, on October 21, 2018.
Joyce was employed by Center Grove Community School Corporation, for 25 years retiring as Head Custodian from West Grove Elementary. Joyce was a member of the Northern Park Baptist Church in Greenwood.
Survivors include children, Doyle W Burgess (Tamara) of Needham, IN, Deborah L. Davis (Ronald) of Whiteland, IN and Duane E. Burgess (Dee Ann) of Greenwood, IN, four grandchildren, Whitney Cummings, (Kraig), Tyler Burgess (Megan), Kylie Fish (Tim), and Kimberly Jung (Jake). Ten great grandchildren: Emma Cummings, Molly Cummings, Lucas Cummings, Ava Marie Jung, Hunter Jung, Khloe Jung, June Burgess, Nola Burgess, Ellie Burgess, Lyra Fish, and Andrew Fish. Sisters Lois Smith, Sue Smith, Connie Bennett, Helen Davis and a brother Gary W Gibson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and infant brother William Larry Gibson.
Rev. William Horner of Shelbyville will conduct a celebration of life service on Wednesday May 5, 2021 at 11 AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed for family and friends can connect at <a href="http://www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/joyce-burgess">www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/joyce-burgess</a>.
