Hearts & Darts – February 29

Hearts

My heart goes out to all basketball athletes and their coaches, for all their time, hard work and dedication. I’ve enjoyed it all to the utmost. Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America.

Wilma Jean Hougland

Franklin

Here’s hearts to Sarah Chambers, a Franklin Community High School freshman, who has a big heart for our country’s veterans. She sponsored a project that involved collecting coats for veterans, the result of a school project. Sarah collected and delivered 106 coats and countless gloves, hats and scarves. Also, thanks to the community that supported her efforts.

Charles Russell

Johnson County Veterans Affairs

To the lady and Rushville police officer who assisted me to my feet and helped me toward the Johnson Memorial Hospital emergency room after I tripped and fell onto the sidewalk. A big heart to you! This happened on Feb. 15. Please call me so that I may personally thank you.

William T. “Ted” Murphy

Franklin

Hearts to the Franklin men’s basketball players and coaches. Saddled with a 1-20 record, most teams would have packed it in and longed for the season to end. The Grizzlies never quit and continued to play hard, as they had all season, and were rewarded with wins in three of their last four games, all against teams which had beaten them earlier in the year.

Patience and Walt Vanderbush

Franklin

Hearts to the many courteous Franklin drivers who stop to let bicyclers like us cross the streets on the Franklin trail. A special thanks to the Franklin police officer who, a number of weeks ago, stopped traffic on Jefferson Street to allow us to cross.

Darts

Darts to the individual(s) responsible for thinking that the corner of Elm and Jefferson Streets no longer needed to be a three-way stop. It was made a three-way stop for a reason.
