Man arrested on child pornography charges

A man has been arrested and charged with a felony after police said he had downloaded more than 50 images of child pornography.

Barry Betz, 54, 2834 W. Sampler Lane, Monrovia, was charged with possession of child pornography, according to the probable cause affidavit.

In May, Betz’s ex-wife, who lives in Franklin, called police after she found pornographic images on his cellphone, according to the probable cause affidavit.

A forensic examiner went through Betz’s phone and found about 58 photos of young boys and girls appearing to be younger than age 18 that appeared to be child pornography, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Investigators also found more than 10 sexually explicit websites on the phone’s internet browsing history, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Betz was arrested Friday morning and held on $2,400 bond at the Johnson County jail.
