Steven L. ‘Steve’ Jenkins, Sr.

THORNVILLE, Ohio

Steven L. “Steve” Jenkins Sr., 57, of Thornville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 30, 1957, in Indianapolis to Elizabeth Ann Dillehay and Jack A. Jenkins Sr.

Steve enjoyed spending time at the beach with his family while vacationing in Clearwater, Florida. He was a big fan of Peyton Manning, loved to watch NASCAR racing and his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and was a Notre Dame fan. Favorite pastimes of his were driving, taking care of his black 2010 Camaro and playing golf. Steve had been a construction supervisor with the Mark-L Construction Co. for 22 years.

He is survived by his father, Jack A. Jenkins Sr.; his wife, Bonita K. (O’Dell) Jenkins; two sons, Steven L. Jenkins Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Matthew S. Jenkins of Newark, Ohio; a stepson, Brandon Long of Millersport, Ohio; two daughters, Emily L. Jenkins of Indianapolis and Amanda E. Jenkins of Columbus, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Heather (Phillip) VanDyke of Newark and Jamie (Warren Weber II) Long of Newark; two brothers, Jack (Phyllis) Jenkins Jr. of Greenwood and Dan (Kelly) Jenkins of Estero, Florida; four sisters, Robin (Andy) Schoentrup of Bargersville, Anita (Dave) Atchison of St. Louis, Dianne Smith of Greenwood and Teresa (Darryl) Whittaker of Cape Coral, Florida; grandchildren, Jonathon, Gavin, Kobe, Xavion and Aevin; a great-grandson, Jaxon; several aunts and uncles; and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann Dillehay; and a nephew, Jeffrey Jenkins.

A family memorial celebration and golf outing will be at a later date in the spring of 2016.

In lieu flowers, Steve’s family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute’s Thoracic Oncology Research Fund (303706) in his memory.
