Boys soccer

Trojans shut out Martinsville

Nick Shirer scored two goals, and Griffin Smith and Jack Neal one each to lead Center Grove past Martinsville, 4-0 on Thursday.

Neal also picked up an assist for the Trojans. Other assists came from Ben Derose, Alec Prime and Alex Cuculick.

Rebels too much for Chatard

Roncalli celebrated Senior Night in fine fashion by defeating Chatard, 4-1.

Jake Evans, Chad Ransburg and Bryson Meek won at the singles positions. In doubles, the Rebels (8-11) picked up a point through the efforts of Ryan Heckman and Alex Payne.

Hippenmeyer leads Center Grove

Senior midfielder Kelli Hippenmeyer scored three goals on Wednesday as 18th-ranked Center Grove won at Mooresville, 6-0.

Athena Passafiume, Megan Perry and Isabelle Andersen provided the other goals for the Trojans, who improved to 8-3-1. Picking up assists were Hippenmeyer, Perry, Emmie Ward and Brooke Smalley.

Center Grove goalkeepers Ella Thompson and Kelti Wise teamed to preserve the shutout.

Grube goal enough for Rebels

Kelly Grube’s goal off of a Sydney Young assist stood up for Roncalli as it defeated Lawrence North, 1-0, in Wednesday’s first round of the Marion County Tournament.

Abby Genier picked up the win in goal for the Rebels.

Wilson earns academic honor

Center Grove senior Hannah Wilson has been selected to the IHSGCA Academic All-State Team for 2016.

She is one of 15 players selected from around the state.

Previous Trojans players who earned this same honor include Holly Paddack, Sydney Clute and Heydon Martin.
