Evangeline Ruth (Joslin) Sauer of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, in Lebanon. She was 92.
Evangeline was born on Feb. 6, 1924, to Lee and Minnie (Goodman) Joslin.
She attended Shortridge High School alongside Kurt Vonnegut.
She worked at Eli Lilly and the Benjamin Harrison home on Delaware Street.
She married Edward Thomas Sauer on Oct. 3, 1942. They adored traveling, entertaining during the holidays, and most of all, each other.
Together, they visited the Great Wall of China and the Vatican. They frequented the U.S. Virgin Islands and spent many cherished summers with family on Wisconsin lake resorts.
The purpose of her life was her family. She devoted the majority of her years to taking care of them, often giving all she had to ensure their well-being.
When her husband was listed as a POW during World War II, Evangeline volunteered at a New Jersey factory, where she deburred guns to support the war effort. As her husband succumbed to health problems later in life, she dedicated herself to his care. She was a selfless caregiver.
Evangeline is survived by her three children, Stephen L. Sauer, Karen S. Hassell (Tom) and Anthony A. Sauer (Cora). She leaves behind 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents; her sister Helen Kingsley; her son, Edward T. Sauer; and her beloved husband, Ed.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, 481 W. Main St., Greenwood. The family will receiving guests at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
