Gerald N. “Jerry” Smith

GREENWOOD

Gerald N. “Jerry” Smith, 75, of Greenwood, passed away on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at the Hearth at Stones Crossing in Greenwood.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1941, in Kendallville, to Norman Roy Smith and Dolores Elizabeth (Stirn) Smith.

He married Kay J. (Bergman) Smith on April 25, 1970, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo, and she survives.

He was a 1959 graduate of Rushville High School in Rushville, where he spent his school years. He then graduated from Ball State University in 1963 with a degree in history.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1969 in the Naval Intelligence Department in Seattle, Washington.

He retired in 2006 from JP Morgan Chase, formerly American Fletcher National Bank and Bank One after 23 years in the trust real estate department.

He was member of Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood where he was active in the men’s club. He was also a member of the Greenwood American Legion Post 205.

He had a passion for golf, enjoyed reading, history, and visiting historical sites and battlefields. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Kay J. (Bergman) Smith of Greenwood; two daughters, Karen A. Gray (Scott) of Pasadena, Maryland and Kristen E. Smith of Greenwood; and their loving dogm Bindi.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Father Stephen W. Giannini will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at noon today at SS. Francis and Clare Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time today at the church. Military honors will follow the service at the church. Ennichement will take place at the columbarium at SS. Francis and Clare Catholic Church.

Swartz Family Church and Chapel-Funeral and Cremation Services in Greenwood is handling the arrangements.
