Local Christmas concert round-up

Local musical groups present holiday concerts this weekend to warm to chill in the air and get the community in the yuletide spirit with secular and sacred favorites.

The Franklin College Music Department will host its choral concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday. All concerts will be conducted in the Clarence E. and Inez R. Custer Theatre in Old Main.

The instrumental concert will include the wind string ensembles. The FC Singers, and women’s and men’s choruses will perform in the choral concerts.

The Whiteland Community High School Choral Department will present the “Joyful Sounds of the Season” Friday and Saturday at the high school.

The show features the students in the award-winning advanced choirs — Shades of Blue, Expressions and Rhythm Masters.

All groups will perform holiday favorites and other pieces including Handel’s “And the Glory of the Lord,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” “Dan Forrest’s Dance of Exultation” and many more.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and children 2 and younger are free. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the high school auditorium, 300 E. Main St., Whiteland.

The Greater Greenwood Community Band’s annual holiday show will turn Greenwood Community High School’s auditorium into a cozy wonderland on Saturday.

The band will play Christmas favorites and the show will be complete with a visit from Santa Claus. The stage will be set with twinkling lights to brighten the auditorium during the festive evening.

Music begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free. A donation of canned goods for Greenwood’s Salvation Army food bank is requested.
