An artistic portrayal

The Southside Art League, Inc. will host the drawings and oil paintings of artist Charlene Brown through January.

Her work will hang at the SALI Off Broadway Gallery from Jan. 4 to 31.

Brown is an award-winning artist who credits her grandmother for nurturing her creativity when she was young, according to a statement from the gallery.

Brown earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Earlham College, and launched her career in May 2012 at the Renaissance Gallery in Carmel.

She teaches drawing and painting to youth and adults out of her home studio, while working to hone her skills.

Her portrayals of people and nature combine elements of realism, impressionism, and abstraction, according to the statement.

She has won numerous awards in shows that include the Hoosier Salon, the Indiana Artists Club, Indiana Heritage Arts and the Richmond Art Museum.

Her work can be seen at the Hoosier Salon Gallery in Carmel, the Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville and at her website charlenembrown.com.

The SALI Off Broadway Gallery is located at 299 E. Broadway St., Greenwood.

Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and by appointment.

Call SALI at 317-882-5562 to arrange for viewing. The exhibit is free.

The public is invited to meet Brown during the SALI Open House at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at the gallery. Light refreshments will be served.
