Police: Juveniles flee deputy, crash vehicle

Two teens were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a pursuit with police that ended in a crash in Franklin.

At 3 a.m. Sunday, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a vehicle on U.S. 31 with three teens inside. While talking with the 17-year-old driver outside the vehicle, another teen inside took off in the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Deputies followed the vehicle, which crashed into a tree on Graham Street, near Oliver Avenue. The two teens inside, a 15-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy, were taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, the report said.

The 17-year-old who had been stopped by police initially had a blood-alcohol content of .14 percent, and was released to his grandmother, the report said. The other 17-year-old told police he fled because he had been drinking, the report said.

Both 17-year-olds could face juvenile charges, including consumption of alcohol by a minor and operating a vehicle without a license, the report said.
