College update – April 21

Sophomore second baseman Mandy Dallas belted a two-run home run to lead IUPUIā€™s softball team to a 3-2 win against Cleveland State in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Center Grove product picked up two more hits in the nightcap, including a double, as the Jaguars prevailed, 6-5. Her hot streak continued with a homer and single in a 7-4 home loss to Cleveland State.

First baseman Delainey Turner and left fielder Maddie Keeley, also from Center Grove, produced three hits and two runs, respectively, in the three games for IUPUI.

CENTER GROVE

Lacey Siderewicz, a sophomore at Franklin College, helped the Grizzlies place third in the 4×100 relay at the Indiana Division III track and field championships at DePauw in a time of 51.58 seconds.

Davidsonā€™s Tori Long established a new personal-best time in the 400-meter run at the Charlotte Invitational. Long clocked a 58.14-second lap.

Purdue senior hurdler Justin Veteto won the 110-meter hurdles at the Louisville Invitational in a time of 13.67 seconds. The time is seventh-best in the NCAA this season and second in the Big Ten Conference.

Indiana sprinter Derek Grimmer set a personal best in the 400-meter dash at the Tennessee Relays with a time of 49.12 seconds. Grimmer also contributed to the Hoosiersā€™ 4×200 and 4×400 relays, which finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

Purdue Northwest pitcher Jade Doyle worked two-thirds of an inning in relief during the teamā€™s 10-8 win at Saginaw Valley.

Indiana Wesleyan catcher Nick Coy had a single and stolen base in a 10-2 win at Goshen. He also chipped in a single in a loss to IU-Kokomo.

Shortstop Ethan Brooks had a single in both ends of Graceā€™s doubleheader losses to Taylor. He followed that with a two-hit effort in a loss to Goshen.

Montevallo junior Abbey Pratt closed out her teamā€™s 6-5 victory at Shorter with 21/3 innings of relief pitching.

Black Hills State catcher Maddie London produced six hits, including a home run, in a two-game split with Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Robert Morris (Illinois) pitcher Nicole Abrams pitched a complete game and had a single in a 4-2 win against Calumet College of St. Joseph. The freshman pitched the final 22/3 innings in the second game of the doubleheader, a 6-1 loss.

Franklin College leftfielder Lexi Gaffney had a hit in each of the teamā€™s doubleheader wins against Bluffton.

Right fielder Victoria Boyer delivered two hits for Indiana Wesleyan in its 10-1 victory at Taylor. The junior hit a triple in a 2-0 win at Mount Vernon Nazarene in the opener of a doubleheader and produced three hits in a two-game sweep of Grace.

Junior Mallory Baker collected two hits for Purdue in its 8-7 loss to Nebraska.

Taylorā€™s sweep of a doubleheader at Spring Arbor included two hits and three runs from junior outfielder Courtney Moriarty. She also pitched two innings of relief in the second game.

Freshman Ethan Shepherd shot 76-72ā€”148 to place 41st for Indiana at the Boilermaker Invitational.

WHITELAND

Taylor baseball player Jared Adkins had hits in all four plate appearances in the teamā€™s 11-5 win at Grace.

Monica Collins had a single in Franklin Collegeā€™s 5-1 win against Bluffton. The junior added a hit and stolen base in the second game of the doubleheader, a 9-0 Grizzlies victory.

Indiana Wesleyan pitcher Danielle Munn surrendered two hits in an inning of relief work in a 10-2 win at Taylor. Munn also closed out the teamā€™s 9-0 decision over Mount Vernon Nazarene and two victories against Grace.

INDIAN CREEK

Franklin College freshman Hunter Fields placed eighth in the shot put at the Indiana Division III track and field championships at DePauw.

Pitcher Brenden Smith started Marianā€™s 8-5 win against visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene, allowing four hits and striking out five.

FRANKLIN

Freshman Sam Barnett helped Marian record a fifth-place finish in the 4×400 relay at the Ball State Challenge.

Franklin Collegeā€™s softball sweep of Bluffton included a single and double by senior first baseman Grace Paszek. In the opener, a 5-1 win, pitcher Olivia Paszek pitched a four-hitter while striking out 10.

GREENWOOD

Senior menā€™s tennis player Alex Hammer scored wins in both singles and doubles play for Franklin College in its 6-3 loss at Manchester.

Senior Davis Carter went 5 of 6 at the plate for Taylor during its sweep of Spring Arbor in softball. Carter also scored four runs and drove in three more in a doubleheader loss at Marian, Carter had a total of three singles.

IUPUI pitcher Megan Overton made three starts against Cleveland State, picking up wins in two of them. The sophomore produced six hits in the series, including a 3-for-4 effort in which she contributed a home run and stolen base.

Olney Central freshman catcher Damon Maynard swatted a two-run triple in a 15-1 defeat of Southeastern Illinois. He produced two singles in Olneyā€™s 10-4 loss to the same squad in the second game of a doubleheader.
