Sylvia Veronica Warrenburg, 95, passed on Saturday, April 7, 2018. She was born in Tallinn, Estonia, on April 21, 1922, to Boles and Juli Milland Kotsenski. Sylvia attended grade school in Tallinn, Estonia, for 6 years and went to a private boarding school in Switzerland graduating in 1939. Sylvia moved to Vienna, Austria, and was accepted to medical school to study pre-med. In 1943, all medical students in the program were sent to work in the Army Field Hospitals as a requirement for their medical degrees. In 1945 the students were told that all foreign students had to return home. Sylvia’s homeland was occupied by the Soviets and it was impossible and too dangerous to go back to Tallinn, Estonia. Sylvia moved to a girl friend’s home near Miltenberg Germany on the Main River in 1945. Sylvia went to work for UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration) as an interpreter and switchboard operator until 1947 when she moved to America. Sylvia met her husband Raleigh, in October of 1945, who was with the United States Army, and it was love at first sight. Raleigh was discharged in 1946 and Sylvia arrived in America in 1947 and they were married on June 16, 1947, in Indianapolis. Sylvia became a US Citizen on June 29, 1951. Sylvia enjoyed cooking, reading, quilting, sewing, and flower gardening. Sylvia worked at Bemis Bag Co., Indianapolis for 14 years, the Seasons Lodge, Nashville, Indiana, for 10 years, and Mary Bonner’s Fabric Addict also in Nashville for 5 years. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Glenn Warrenburg; survived by her 2 sons, Philip (Deirdre) Warrenburg and Eric Warrenburg, both of Franklin; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Heart-felt thanks are given to the hard working and compassionate staff at the Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community (Franklin United Methodist Community). In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held and Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, handled her cremation.funeral home logo
