Whiteland falls to Shelbyville

Despite fighting back with a five-run fifth inning to get within two runs, Whiteland suffered a 12-6 defeat against Shelbyville on Monday.

Chase Bennett had three hits and two RBIs for the Warriors (12-10), while Nick Carrizales also knocked in a pair of runs.

Warriors sweep Braves

Whiteland dominated Indian Creek in posting a 5-0 victory on Monday. Reese Johnson, Haley Darling and Sophie Venter claimed the three singles points for the Warriors (12-4).

Sarah Scott and Bri Harwell were victorious at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2 team of Hannah Blum and Riley Burnside was also a winner.

Trojans fall to Irish

A straight-sets victory from Jillian Garrett at No. 3 singles was the only point that sixth-ranked Center Grove could muster in a 4-1 loss to No. 2 Cathedral on Monday.

Boys golf

Grizzly Cubs top Woodmen

Javan Johnson and Matt Jordan shot 37 and 38, respectively, as No. 18 Franklin coasted past Greenwood on Monday, 154 to 205. Quin Edwards and Barrett Daily each added a 39 for the Grizzly Cubs.

Trojans handle Pioneers

Bryant Simulia led the way with a 37 as top-ranked Center Grove defeated Mooresville in a dual match on Monday, 154 to 172.

Lancers drop three-way

Bladen Hancock was the medalist with a round of 43, but Edinburgh finished third in a match with North Decatur and Hauser on Monday at Clifty Creek.

Indiana All-Star ticket info released

Ticket information has been released for early June games involving the Indiana All-Stars and Junior All-Stars.

On June 3, the Indiana Junior All-Stars and Kentucky Junior All-Stars will play at Ben Davis High School, with the girls tipping off at 2 p.m. and the boys to follow. Tickets are $6 at the door.

The Junior-Senior All-Star games will be at New Albany High School. The girls start at 6 p.m. with boys to follow. Admission is $6 at the door, but the games are expected to sell out. A one-night presale will be held Wednesday at the New Albany gym, starting at 6 p.m.

The Indiana All-Stars play Kentucky in Knights Hall at Bellarmine University in Louisville on June 8; the girls tip at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow. Tickets are $15 and available in advance at http://kyallstars.eventbrite.com.

On June 9, Indiana hosts Kentucky at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, with the girls starting first at 5 p.m. For tickets, visit www.bankerslifefieldhouse.com/tickets.

Information for the June 2 meeting between the Indiana Junior All-Stars and Kentucky Junior All-Stars in Kentucky has not yet been finalized.

Nine Warriors sign college letters

A group of Whiteland students signed letters of intent to continue their athletic pursuits at Division III universities.

Four of the nine signees — Cam Lilly, Austin Cook, Garrett Curtis and Cameron Ciampa — will be playing football at Thomas More. Matt Luechtefeld signed to play football at Anderson, while Cameron Johnson will play at Trine.

Also signing were Tori Pierson (Spalding University women’s soccer), Lindsey Boltz (Hope College softball), Addison Csikos (Franklin College softball) and Nick Carrizales (Earlham baseball).

Softball earns first NCAA bid

After claiming the HCAC tournament title on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Transylvania, Franklin College celebrated its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament bracket on Monday afternoon

The Grizzlies (29-10) will play in a double-elimination regional at Holland, Michigan, beginning with an opening-round game against Calvin College (30-8). The Knights are making their first NCAA trip in 20 years.
