Trojans win handily

Abby Herbst tossed six innings of one-hit ball and helped herself out with a grand slam at the plate as Class 4A No. 1 Center Grove took care of Scecina, 8-0, on Thursday.

Jordyn Rudd hit a pair of doubles for the Trojans (26-1).

Lancers hammer Waldron

Sidney Beier homered and drove in three runs, and Paige Burton added three hits, as Edinburgh rolled to a 12-0 victory over Waldron in five innings on Thursday.

Maddi Clark pitched a one-hitter for the Lancers (14-7, 12-1 Mid-Hoosier), striking out 10 without a walk.

Grizzly Cubs fall to Olympians

A rough first inning was too much to overcome as Franklin took a 6-1 loss against Columbus East on Thursday. Alec MacLennan had two of the four hits for the Grizzly Cubs (11-13).

Boys golf

Grizzly Cubs edge Plainfield

Javan Johnson and Damon Dickey each shot a round of 38 and Matt Jordan added a 39 as No. 10 Franklin topped Plainfield, 158 to 166, on Thursday. Quin Edwards capped the scoring for the Grizzly Cubs with a 43.

Warriors dominate three-way

Isaac Ebeyer and Walt Brady each shot a 40 as Whiteland coasted to easy wins over Franklin Central and Decatur Central on Thursday.

Jacob Johnson added a 41 for the Warriors, while Zach Ricketts carded a 44.

Braves edge Brown County

A balanced lineup pushed Indian Creek past Brown County, 171 to 176, at Tameka Woods on Wednesday. Scott Russell shot a 40 to lead the Braves, followed by Chandler Donahue (42), Taylor Voris (44) and Dakota Day (45).

Baseball falls in NCAA opener

Franklin College gave up a pair of eighth-inning runs in a 4-2 loss against Rhodes in its first game at the NCAA Division III regional in Sauget, Illnois on Thursday.

Jackson Freed and Jarrod Smith each had two hits for the Grizzlies (38-4), who return to action in the double-elimination bracket at 11 a.m. today against Thomas More.
