Timeline set for Worthsville Road construction

Work on a project to rebuild Worthsville Road east of Interstate 65 will begin later this year.

The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission this week approved seeking bids for re-construction on the section of Worthsville Road from Collins Road, which is County Road 250 East, east to the city limits. The project that is part of building a major east-west corridor through Johnson County from State Road 135 to eastern edge of the county.

The project, which is estimated to cost $3 to $4 million, will be funded by money the redevelopment commission has previously borrowed, and will include rebuilding the road and adding a trail on the south side, Greenwood city engineer Daniel Johnston said.

This fall, workers will relocate utilities to make room for the project. Work to rebuild the road is scheduled for May to November 2019, Johnston said.

Johnson County will be working on its portion of Worthsville Road next year as well, extending the road from where it ends just east of the Greenwood city limits to South Franklin Road.
