Woman injured in shooting

A woman was taken to an area hospital after shooting herself in the face, police said.

Just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the area of Main Street and U.S. 31 in Greenwood, where a woman was seen with a large wound on her face, according to the police report.

A business owner in the area told police a woman he knew came in and then left. He went to check on her and the woman said she had shot herself, and he told her to stay there so he could call for help.

The woman drove away on U.S. 31, prompting officers in multiple communities to try to find her. Officers who went back to the business found a trail of blood leading to a nearby creek, and the woman was there, the report said.

She initially didn’t want medical treatment, but then agreed to be treated. She told police the shooting was accidental, the report said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
