Get fired up for Smoke on the Square

The smell of wood smoke will start wafting through downtown Franklin Friday morning.

Cherry, apple and hickory aromas are set to lilt out of professional-grade smokers of all sizes. Along with the wood smoke comes the unmistakable, mouth-watering smell of slow-roasting meat mingling in.

Smoke on the Square, Franklin’s annual barbecue bonanza, fires up again this weekend. Though food is the focus of the event, organizers have woven everything from classic films to hot rods and motorcycles into the fabric of the weekend.

After seven years, I feel like Smoke on the Square is a tradition the community looks forward to,” said Emily Snyder, executive director of Discover Downtown Franklin, which puts on the event. “It’s such a wonderful way for people to come downtown.”
