Police investigating Center Grove area thefts

Police are investigating at least 13 vehicle break-ins that happened in two Center Grove area neighborhoods during the weekend.

The break-ins happened in two neighborhoods, Highland Park and Willow Lakes, which are located west of State Road 135 and Stones Crossing Road.

Starting about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office began getting reports from residents that their vehicle windows had been broken, items had been rummaged through and cash, credit and debit cards and wallets were taken, according to sheriff’s office reports.

Thefts were reported on Cheviot Court, Lookout Court, Baywood Court, Lakeshort Court, Willow Lakes East Boulevard, Surface Drive, Stones Crossing Road and Lake Crossing Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.

In one case, the thief took cash from inside the vehicle, but not power tools that were left inside, the report said.

At another home, a neighbor found items from a vehicle strewn in his yard, and the resident reported the only item missing was a coin purse with about $20 inside, the report said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating, and has surveillance camera images of a person wearing dark clothing and carrying a backpack. Investigators are also looking for other surveillance cameras in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 317-346-4654.
