Volleyball

Trojans open with victory

Anna Line and Calista Stafford each collected 10 kills as Center Grove opened its season with a 18-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-22 victory over defending Class 3A state champion New Castle on Saturday.

Ashley Eck paced the Trojan defense with 33 digs, while Santina Schembra added 16. Madison Hammill had 28 assists, five kills and five blocks.

Braves take two of three

Indian Creek opened its season with two wins and a loss at the Mooresville Invite on Saturday. The Braves defeated Lawrence Central 25-15, 25-15 and lost to Cathedral 25-16, 25-14 before edging the host Pioneers 25-18, 23-25, 15-10.

Taylor Burkett and Morgan Frash finished the day with 15 and 11 kills, respectively, while Jessie Hart added nine kills and 28 digs. Malea Brownfield dished out 33 assists.

Rebels sweep Flashes

Roncalli defeated Franklin Central on Saturday, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15, behind nine kills and four blocks from Elizabeth Eads.

Boys soccer

Center Grove rolls past Rebels

Sophomore Aaron McDaniel had two goals and an assist to lead Class 3A No. 12 Center Grove to a 5-1 victory over Roncalli on Saturday.

Jack Neal, Colin Parry and Nick Shirer also found the back of the net for the Trojans.

Girls golf

Grizzly Cubs third at Providence

Franklin placed third against a strong field at the Providence Invitational on Saturday. Ava Ray led the way for the Grizzly Cubs with a 74.

Ellie Beavins added a 77 for Franklin, while Liv Parramore shot 79 and Taylor Drake finished with an 83.
