Roncalli counselor to appear on ‘Ellen’

A local school counselor whose job is in jeopardy because she is married to another woman will appear on the “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” today.

Shelley Fitzgerald, a Roncalli guidance counselor, was suspended from the southside Catholic school after new leadership in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis was tipped off about her marriage, her lawyer said.

Fitzgerald, who has been a counselor at the school for 15 years, was married in 2014.

Neither the school nor the Archdiocese have commented publicly about the issue.

News of her suspension drew national media attention.

Fitzgerald’s interview with DeGeneres will air at 3 p.m. today on NBC.
