Rebels repeat as county champs

Roncalli defeated Brebeuf on Saturday, 25-17, 28-26, 25-19, to win its second straight Marion County tournament title. Grace Hegwood had 15 kills and 21 digs to pace the Rebels, while Betsy Crosley and Elizabeth Eads added 12 and 10 kills apiece. Emma Halter led the defense with 33 digs.

In the semifinal round, the Rebels beat Perry Meridian 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 behind 14 kills from Hegwood.

Franklin College

Women’s soccer dominates Defiance

Maddie Fleet had four goals and an assist in Franklin College’s lopsided 7-0 win over Defiance on Saturday. Cayla Crawford, Taylor McDaniel and Jackie List also scored for the Grizzlies (4-5-1, 1-0 HCAC).

Men’s soccer beaten in OT

Angel Tapia scored his first collegiate goal, but Franklin College suffered a 2-1 overtime defeat at home against Defiance on Saturday.

Women’s tennis remains unbeaten

Franklin College maintained its perfect record with a 7-2 home win over Anderson on Saturday. Karen Dringenburg, Holyn Eldridge, Alexa Schofner and Maddie Bright each won singles and doubles matches for the Grizzlies (5-0, 4-0 HCAC), while Grace Otte and Brianna Hutton added a doubles victory.

Men’s tennis tops Anderson

Snapping a two-match losing streak, Franklin College notched a 6-3 victory over Anderson on Saturday. Blake Amonett, Matt Stone and Josh Stewart earned points in both singles and doubles, while Jacob Zachary tacked on a singles point. Alexander Pollard partnered with Amonett in doubles.

Cross country competes in Louisville

Juniors Clayton Brumfield and Blaine Conners turned in career-best times as Franklin College’s men finished 13th at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. Brumfield (26:26) was 15th overall on the 8-kilometer course, while Conners (26:42) was 19th.

The Grizzlies were 39th in the women’s meet.
