Young ties for 24th at state finals

CARMEL

Center Grove senior Lucy Young and Franklin senior Taylor Drake finished their high school golfing careers at the girls state finals at Prairie View Golf Club on Saturday.

Young didn’t record any birdies in her final round but still managed to score a 78 to finish with a two-day total of 160 and tie for 24th overall individually.

“I was really nervous (Friday) but I was less nervous today because I got a feel for the course,” Young said.

Young’s golfing career isn’t over; she will play for Grace College next year.

”I just had so much fun and I’ve learned a lot about my game and myself,” Young said about her time playing for the Trojans. “I hope to play as well as I can in college and work really hard at it.”

Drake finished her high school career with a round of 95 to finish with a total of 192, tied for 80th place.

“I was kind of nervous on the first day but today I wasn’t as nervous, but there is still some pressure,” Drake said. “I tried to have fun. Seeing it was my last round, it was sad because I know that I won’t be back next year. I definitely saw how I improved for four years.”

Drake hasn’t yet decided if she will continue playing the sport at the collegiate level.

Jocelyn Bruch of Westfield was the individual state champion with a 1-under-par 143.
