Franklin Edward “Ed” Vandivier, 81, of Venice, FL, formerly of Franklin, IN, passed away October 10, 2018.

Ed was born in Edinburgh, Indiana and was a graduate of Edinburgh High School in 1955. He was in the Indiana National Guard from 1953 to 1955. Ed was in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959 and attended Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ and Indiana University, Indianapolis, IN.

Ed owned and operated several businesses before being elected Mayor of Franklin, IN in 1972 through 1980. He was on the Franklin Planning Commission from 1981 to 1984. He was a Real Estate Broker and owner of many rental properties in Franklin.

Ed was a life member of Masonic Lodge #107 Scottish Rite, Elks Lodge #1818, American Legion Post #205, VFW Post #6978, FOE Aerie #3482. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and politics.

Ed was a lifelong Democrat.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Corydon and Meda E. (Richards) Vandivier and brothers, Dale, Raymond C. and Wendell “Woody” Vandivier. He is survived by his wife, Patty Sue (Gorrell) Vandivier; daughters, Natalie S. Vandivier (Jeff Albrecht), Shannan (Vandivier) Minkus, Lisa (Gorrell) Pollard (Mike Pollard); son, Chad Gorrell (Tonya Queen); and grandchildren, Sarah E. Minkus, Chelsea E. Pollard, and Clay W. Gorrell.

A celebration of life will be held October 19, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. at Farley Funeral Home, 265 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice, FL 34285.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Ed’s name to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
