Man killed in morning crash on State Road 37

An early morning accident in White River Township left one person dead and closed parts of State Road 37 for more than two hours.

The crash involved a semi and a passenger car. The driver of the passenger car, a Lawrence County resident, died at the scene, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

His name has not yet been released.

A witness told officers the passenger car, which was traveling northbound on State Road 37, crossed the median and struck the semi head on. The impact killed the driver, Cox said.

The accident happened before 7 a.m. and closed part of State Road 37 near Olive Branch Road.

Investigators aren’t sure what caused the driver to cross the median into oncoming traffic, he said.

The semi driver was not injured, Cox said.

State Road 37 between Olive Branch and Stones Crossing Roads has been reopened.
