Richard “Dick” L. Clark, 90, passed away peacefully at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community on October 26, 2018.

Dick was born on November 20, 1927 in Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana to Rice and Hazel Emma Clark (nee Combs).

He married his loving wife of 68 years, Clara June (nee Furgeson) on August 19, 1950 at the Franklin Baptist Church. Clara survives him and continues to live in the home Dick built on family farmland in 1956.

Dick graduated from Franklin Community High School. He joined the United States Postal Service in 1947 and held virtually every position in the Franklin office up to Supervisor of Postal Operations, his role when he retired in 1987.

In 1952, Dick was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served as a member of the Central Intelligence Corps (CIC) until his discharge from active duty in 1954. He spent the majority of his time as a radio operator near Stuttgart, Germany. He was in the U.S. Army reserves until 1960.

During his last several years at the Post Office, Dick worked part time at the Indiana State Fair. In retirement, Dick continued to work at the Indiana State Fair, ultimately spending 35 years working in the gates and traffic department. He also worked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where he became a member of the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers Club, signifying 20+ years of services. He also served at the Indiana State Legislature where he served as a doorman and House Postman.

Dick was an active member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107 F&AM. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat Shriners of Indianapolis. He was a lifetime member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he served the church as an Elder and Deacon. He was a 65-year member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Choir.

In addition to being survived by his wife, Clara; he is survived by two children and five grandchildren. His daughter, Rebecca “Becky” lives in Massachusetts and has two daughters, Shannon and Megan. Gregg lives in Connecticut along with his wife, Danielle, and their three children: William, Reese-Bennett and Britton. Dick is preceded in passing by his parents and brothers, William F. Clark and Donald L. Clark.

No services are planned. The family has entrusted Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home with arrangements.
