Multiple counterfeit bills passed in southern part of the county

Trafalgar police are warning residents to watch out for fake money after at least five counterfeit bills were passed in Peoga, Morgantown and Trafalgar.

At least three fake $20 bills were passed at the McDonald’s in Trafalgar during the last few months, said Charles Roberts, chief of the Trafalgar Police Department.

A fake bill was also passed at a convenience store in Peoga. Fake money was passed in Morgantown. Both incidents happened within the last few days, Roberts said.

People that receive money that they believe to be fake should report it to the nearest police department immediately, he said.

Counterfeit money usually has a different shade of ink and is a different size than real money, Roberts said.
