Girls basketball

Trojans edge Red Devils in OT

Ella Thompson sank five 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 21 points, leading Center Grove to a 53-52 overtime victory over Pike on Saturday afternoon.

Emma Utterback and Mary Wilson, who each had a key overtime basket, finished with 13 and 11 points for the Trojans (9-2, 2-1 MIC), who won their eighth game in a row.

Grizzly Cubs rout Golden Bears

Hailee Robbins’ 20 points helped propel Franklin to its fourth straight win, a 63-33 drubbing of Shelbyville on Saturday. Bayleigh Torrance and Kuryn Brunson added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Grizzly Cubs (7-6).

Trojans surge past Orioles

Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 36 points and Center Grove overcame an early deficit to beat Avon, 56-48, on Saturday.

The Trojans (6-2) trailed 19-9 after the first quarter but cut that margin to one by halftime. Justin DeGraaf chipped in with 12 points in the victory.

Grizzly Cubs get road win

Reece Thomson poured in 32 points and Franklin used a strong start and a stronger finish to earn a 77-63 win at Shelbyville on Saturday.

Blaine Wentzell added 14 points for the Grizzly Cubs (4-1), who gave up most of a 21-9 first-quarter lead before putting the game away with 28 points in the final period. Drew Byerly and Cory Richards finished with 13 points apiece in the victory.

Lancers stymied at Monrovia

Edinburgh suffered a 52-26 setback at Monrovia on Saturday, getting outscored 19-4 in the fourth quarter of what had been a close game early. Darius Bennett paced the Lancers (3-5) with seven points.

Men’s basketball falls at Bluffton

A 14-0 first-half run by host Bluffton proved too much for Franklin College to overcome in a 74-52 loss on Saturday. Kyle Meyer had 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Grizzlies (3-6, 2-2 HCAC), while Jordan Anderson also scored 10.

Women’s basketball takes road loss

Despite career highs of 14 points and eight boards off the bench from freshman Destinee Cross, Franklin College suffered a 69-52 setback at Bluffton on Saturday. The Beavers took control with a 23-6 surge spanning the second and third quarters. Bayleigh Walker scored 10 points for the Grizzlies (2-6, 1-3 HCAC).
