More candidates seeking city, town offices

More candidates are filing for city offices in Greenwood.

A Franklin College administrator filed for a seat on the Greenwood City Council, and a former council member who gave up his post to keep his job with the city wants it back.

Terry Roberts-Leonard, who ran for a seat on the Clark-Pleasant school board last year, is running for the district 3 seat on the city council.

Roberts-Leonard is director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Franklin College. She is running as a Democrat, and will likely face council member Bruce Armstrong in the November election. No other candidates have filed in district 3.

Former city council member Tim McLaughlin is running as a Republican for the district 2 seat, and will face off against incumbent Ezra Hill in the May primary. He previously served as an at-large member.

In district 1, Democrat Matthew Smith, who currently serves on the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals and Plan Commission, is running for Republican Linda Gibson’s seat.

In district 5, Janet L. Whiteside, a Republican, is running for J. David Hopper’s seat. They will face off in the May primary election.

Other candidates who filed on Monday were: Eric Arnold, a Democrat, for an at-large seat on the Bargersville Town Council; Charlie Bourne, a Republican, for an at-large seat on the Prince’s Lakes Town Council; and Nancy Kehl, a Republican, for Bargersville clerk-treasurer.

More than 50 seats are on the ballot in cities and towns across Johnson County this year. So far, 43 candidates have filed.

Major party candidates have until noon on Feb. 8 to file.
