Resident helps police catch burglary suspect

An alert resident saw a suspicious man in a neighborhood and called police, leading officers to a burglary suspect and prompting Center Grove schools be placed on lock down.

Bryon Wright, 49, was arrested on charges of burglary, resisting law enforcement and possession of controlled substance, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Andrew Barnhart said.

A woman called police at 9:30 a.m. Thursday after she saw a man be dropped off by an unfamiliar vehicle and then go behind a home on Waldon Drive in the Forest Hills neighborhood, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. She heard a loud bang and called 911, the news release said.

Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies and Bargersville Police Department officers found a door to the home broken in and saw a man run from the house, the news release said.

A K9 unit from the sheriff’s office tracked the man several homes away. He was arrested after being caught with stolen property from the house that was broken into, the news release said.

Officers asked school officials to lock down Center Grove Elementary School, Center Grove High School and Center Grove Middle School Central, although the man was caught before the schools could take any action. The neighborhood is less than half a mile from those schools, Barnhart said.
