Woman arrested after shoving an officer

A Whiteland woman was arrested after she shoved a police officer so hard that he fell over a lawn chair.

Patricia A. Miller, 53, 55 Cedarwood Court, was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement and battery on a public safety officer.

New Whiteland police were dispatched to a theft at the Dollar General at 7:02 p.m. Monday. The license plate on the vehicle the suspect was driving returned to Miller, according to a report from the New Whiteland Police Department.

Officers went to the home on the vehicle registration and saw man carrying Dollar General bags from the car and into the house. The man refused to come to the door when officers arrived, the report said.

An officer went to the back door of the home and Miller came to the door. When she came outside, the officer told her to place her hands behind her back for arrest. Miller then smacked the officer’s chest, pushing him back over a lawn chair and making handcuffs fly out of his hand, according to the report.

Miller ran and the officer did a leg sweep to take her down and arrest her, the report said.

She was arrested and taken to the Johnson County Jail, where she was released on $2,200 bond.
