Accidental shooting victim recovering

A woman who was accidentally shot in the stomach in Franklin last week is recovering at an Indianapolis hospital.

The victim of the gunshot wound was listed in stable condition on Monday at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital.

Police were called to the 5500 block of East County Road 100 North on the afternoon of July 4 on a report of a person shot.

The woman was handling a gun when she was having trouble pulling the slide back, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman handed the gun to a man in the home, who pulled the slide back. The gun then discharged and the woman was shot in the stomach, the report said.

The woman said she believed that the gun was not loaded while she was handling it, the report said.
