Tens of thousands raised in memorial ride

A motorcycle ride honoring a local teen who died in a car accident has raised the most money ever in the event’s history.

The Johnson County Eagles raised $31,000 in the annual Goin’ to the Dogs motorcycle ride, organized in memory of Sara Woods. Woods died of a car accident in 2008 and her family’s friends at the Johnson County Eagles have organized the event nearly every year since her death.

Money raised goes to the Johnson County Animal Shelter, which uses the money to help people keep their pets by assisting them with minor, pet related medical issues such as vaccinations and exams, said Michael Delp, director of the Johnson County Animal Control.

Prior to this year, $8,000 was the most the ride had raised.
