Edinburgh’s incumbent clerk-treasurer will keep his job for another term, while two Republicans and an Independent earned seats on the town’s council.
Five residents vied for three seats on Edinburgh Town Council. The seats are going to incumbents Dawn Graham with 26 percent of votes and Jeffrey Simpson with 20 percent of the votes, and newcomer Miriam Rooks with 26 percent of the votes.
Jacqueline Oltman and Lewis Turner each earned 14 percent of votes.

Rooks, Turner and Graham won the spring primary and ran as Republicans. Simpson and Oltman registered for the seat after the primary and ran as Independents.
All of the candidates had listed street repairs, keeping existing services and growing the town’s downtown businesses as priorities.
As late as last spring, no one had filed to run for Edinburgh’s clerk-treasurer race. But incumbent Independent Scott Finley will keep the post, earning 50 percent of the votes.
He faced challenges from Independent Zachary Pendleton, who earned 18 percent of the votes, and Republican Leah Futrell who earned 32 percent.
Pendleton filed to run for the seat after the primary and Futrell was selected as the Republican party’s candidate during the summer. Finley filed as an Independent to keep his seat after the primary. He has been the town’s clerk-treasurer since 2013.
Finley cited keeping open and accurate records as top priorities for the job. He wants to keep making forward strides in transparency. In addition, he would like to work to get more residents to town council meetings and involved in budget hearings, he said.
His seven years on the job and bachelor’s degree in business from IUPUC will help him in the position. He has also attended conferences and meetings with elected officials from across the state, he said.
