Greenwood teacher

receives grant

A Greenwood Community High School teacher has received a grant that will allow him to bring hydroponic gardens to schools.

Derek Fischer recently was the recipient of a $500 MAC Grant from McDonald’s of Central Indiana.

He plans to use the grant to bring hydroponic gardens to the school to give students exposure to growing their own food. MAC Grants are designed to help enhance the classroom experience or curriculum and to build important personal career or business skills for students.

Roncalli students collect thousands of canned items

Roncalli High School students and staff collected tens of thousands of dollars in canned food for their annual drive.

Ninety percent of all students and staff participated. A total of 7,022 food items were collected, along with $32,947.81 for a combined total of $36,458.81.

Donations will be distributed in the Indianapolis area.

earn scholarships

Two Roncalli High School students were honored as recipients of the George Greer Memorial Scholarship.

Recipients of the $1,800 scholarships are Luis Ortiz and Sophia Basto.

Roncalli students named to All-State Honor Choir

Six students from Roncalli High School have been named to the Indiana All-State Honor Choir.

Students who made the choir are: Veronica Phillips, Maria Mina, Chris Figueroa, Ian Knight, Levi Ralston, and Ryan Sissons.

Students were selected out of students from all across the state. They will perform with other students from other schools who have been selected in January.

tradition scholarship

Kathleen Ameis was give Roncalli High School’s 2019 “Spirit of the Family Tradition” Scholarship award.

To be eligible for this scholarship, each $1,500 scholarship winner must be a child of a Sacred Heart Central, Kennedy Memorial, Bishop Chartrand or Roncalli alumnus, must be a senior who has attended Roncalli for three years and must prepare a 500-word essay sharing their feelings and experiences about the “Spirit of the Family Tradition” at Roncalli.

Her mother, Marie (Strack) Ameis, was a member of Roncalli’s Class of 1981.
