Car crashes into southside hospital

One man was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital after the car he was driving hit a southside hospital.

About 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, a man was driving in the parking lot of  Franciscan Health in Indianapolis when he hit the building just south of the hospital’s outpatient entrance, Franciscan Health spokesman Joe Stuteville said.

The driver was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment after Franciscan hospital employees rendered emergency aide. The driver was the only person in the sedan, Stuteville said.

The hospital did not suffer any structural damage, and the name of the driver has not been released. No one was in the immediate area when the crash occurred, he said.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Beech Grove Police Department and Indianapolis Fire Department are investigating the cause of the crash.

Patient care should not be affected at the hospital and business will continue as normal, Stuteville said.

“Drivers should be aware of the traffic around them and to watch the rules of the hospital parking lot,” he said.
