Whiteland man charged for having child porn

A Whiteland man has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography after police found photos and videos of teens involved in sexual acts on his cell phone.

Trent Jorden Houston, 27, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, both Level 6 felonies. He faces up to five years in jail if convicted on both charges and ordered to serve those sentences separately.

In August, a Greenwood detective received a tip from Indiana’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to investigate a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, that an image of a nude girl suspected to be between the ages of 12 and 15 years old, was uploaded using an IP address that was later linked to Houston’s home, according to court documents filed Monday in Johnson County Superior Court 2.

In November, the detective went to the home to confirm that Houston lived there. The detective searched Houston’s home in December, court documents said.

The detective talked to Houston, who told police he used his phone to look at pornography and he had never downloaded anything that was advertised as illegal, according to court documents.

Police took a cell phone from the property and found that the phone had been used to search the internet using search terms such as, "very young" and "jail bait," court documents said.

The detective also found several photos and videos depicting child pornography on the phone. The photo and video the detective viewed to establish probable cause included young girls between the ages of 12 and 16 years old.

A warrant was issued for Houston’s arrest.

Houston, 420 Springdale Drive, was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $1,000 bond.
