Center Grove choirs named Grand Champions

A pair of Center Grove choirs added to their resumes by earning top honors at the Carroll Classic on Saturday in Fort Wayne.

The two choirs, Sound System and The Debtones, were named Grand Champions in the championship mixed and unisex divisions, respectively, according to a news release from Center Grove Community Schools.

Along with their Grand Champion award, Sound System took home awards for Best Vocals, Best Visuals and Best Stage Crew. The Debtones also left Fort Wayne with awards for Best Vocals and Best Visuals in their division. Another Center Grove choir, The Accents, competed against The Debtones in the unisex division, according to the news release.

With the exception of freshman Chelsea Keusch, who won Outstanding Performer for the Accents, the rest of the individual award winners were seniors. Susan May was named 2nd Runner-Up in the solo competition, Ben Johnson was named Best Male Soloist in the championship mixed division, Eli Smith won Outstanding Performer in Sound System, Quinn Halloran won Best Soloist in the unisex division and Meredith Fain won Outstanding Performer in The Debtones, the news release said.

Center Grove’s choirs will next compete Feb. 22 at Huntington North High School for the Huntington North Midwest Showcase.
