Man charged with attempted murder

A Bargersville man faces multiple felonies, including attempted murder, after he shot at a Bargersville police officer earlier this week.

Prosecutors on Thursday charged Andrew Phillip McQuinn, 27, with attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, unlawful possession of a firearm by a violent offender, a Level 4 felony, domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 and theft of a firearm, both Level 6 felonies.

A Level 1 felony is the highest felony someone can be charged with, besides murder.

McQuinn faces up to 57 years in prison if convicted on all charges and ordered to serve each sentence separately.

Bargersville police responded to a domestic disturbance around 8 p.m. Sunday at Clary Crossing Apartments on the northside of town, according to a Bargersville Police Department news release.

Dispatch told officers that a man and woman were involved, and there was a gun at the scene. An officer saw a muzzle flash in his direction and heard multiple gunshots, the news release said.

The officer took cover. The man threw the gun on the ground, laid down and officers arrested him, said Jeremy Roll, Bargersville police spokesman.

The responding officer was unsure of how many gunshots were fired, but investigating officers found six shell casings from a 9mm gun on the ground near the scene, Roll said.

A child inside the apartment at the time of the shooting was not hurt. The woman involved in the disturbance was treated at Community Hospital South, Roll said.

McQuinn remains in the Johnson County jail.
