LAURA HARE PRESERVE AT BLOSSOM HOLLOW, dawn to dusk, 3600 block of Hougham Road, Hensley Township.

Social distancing in the face of the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis has closed or cancelled most forms of entertainment. But the spacious, wide-open natural spaces are still safe, and going outdoors can work wonders for your mental health.

Take some time to explore this 149-acre nature preserve in southern Johnson County. The preserve is a large, unbroken hardwood forest block, which is rare in central Indiana. The forest is a key resting spot for migratory birds and a home for nesting birds. In addition, it is also home to three species considered rare in Indiana: the worm-eating warbler, hooded warbler and Eastern box turtle.

MO WILLEM’S LUNCH DOODLES, 1 p.m. weekdays, kennedy-center.org/education/mo-willems

Flex your creative muscles every day with a live streaming art lesson from children’s author and artist Mo Willems. Willems, who wrote "Don’t Let Pigeon Drive the Bus!" and created the "Elephant and Piggie" series, is the Kennedy Center’s first education artist-in-residence.

Each weekday, he invites people into his studio to draw, doodle and explore new ways of writing. Old episodes remain online to be streamed later on.
