Two arrested after orchestrating drug deal with jail inmates

Two women were arrested on high-level drug dealing charges after orchestrating a drug deal with inmates at the Johnson County jail.

April Blythe, 36, of Indianapolis, and Sherry Riddle, 33, of Franklin, were both arrested on a charge of dealing methamphetamine, Level 2 felonies. If convicted, they could face up to 30 years in prison.

Jail inmates Ricky Blythe, April Blythe’s brother, and Michael Riddle, Sherry Riddle’s husband, face additional charges of conspiracy to deal methamphetamine, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Riddle, who was charged in January, is awaiting trial for dealing meth, a Level 2 felony, and two gun-related charges, according to online court records. Blythe is in jail for violating probation.

Detectives at the sheriff’s office were notified this month of several calls between the Blythe’s about dealing meth and heroin, according to the news release. Both were informed the calls are recorded. Still, April Blythe would “blatantly brag” about how she took over dealing meth for her brother, waving cash in front of a camera to show him, the news release said.

A series of recorded calls on Friday and Saturday indicated that Sherry Riddle, the wife of inmate Michael Riddle, was instructed to pick up meth from April Blythe in Franklin, according to the news release.

On Friday, Franklin police stopped April Blythe’s car and searched it, finding just under a pound of meth and a firearm, the news release said.

Police served a search warrant Saturday at 1615 Preidt Cir, in Franklin, where they seized the the 1/2 ounce of meth April Blythe sold Sherry Riddle and additional meth in a gum container in Riddle’s purse, according to the news release.

“It is amusing that even though people are warned about calls being recorded or monitored in the jail they continue to orchestrate crimes and confess to committing crimes,” Sheriff Duane Burgess said.

April Blythe and Sherry Riddle were booked into the Johnson County jail. Sherry Riddle is held on $30,000 bond, and April Blythe was released on $30,000 bond.
